Nursery

We would like to welcome you and your child to Nursery's class page. There will be lots of exciting things being added to the this page throughout the year. We hope your find the information useful. If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to find one of us as we will be more than happy to assist you with any of your concerns.

As a staff team, we believe we can meet your child’s needs more effectively if we work together. We value your input as your child’s primary carer and as an expert on your child. We rely on your partnership, so together we can provide your child with the highest quality education and care. This will make their time at school happy and enjoyable.

Every morning, staff are available at the entrances into school for you to pass on quick messages or ask questions. If you need a more private moment, or need to speak to your child’s teacher at length, you are very welcome to make an appointment.

General Information

Our Nursery children do wear a uniform at St James, this is to help them feel part of our St James family. Our uniform consists of:

  • A sky blue polo t-shirt
  • A royal blue sweatshirt
  • Grey trousers/skirt/pinafore
  • Black school shoes

Thank you for supporting us in helping to keep the children looking smart and have pride in their school and our high standards.

Our Nursery children do not begin their P.E. sessions this half term. We will update you as to when these are due to begin.

How to support your child's learning

Here are some ways you can help support your child's learning:

*Read to them as often as you can. This can never begin too early and there is no tablet app that can replace the time spent together doing this.

*Singing nursery rhymes.

*Talk!! About anything and everything! What you can see around you on walks, things you are doing together, colours, shapes, quantities, the names of things, logos, signs, numbers...the list is endless.

*Encourage physical activity. Running, climbing, riding a bike or balancing.

*Practice counting together.

*Be creative.

*Provide as many experiences as you can. For example, camping in the garden, a walk in the dark with a torch, baking, junk modelling, painting. Again the list is endless, anything you can talk about together.
